How To Water Your Lawn Efficiently

For many, a lush, green lawn is a symbol of proud homeownership as well as a pleasant place on which to relax or play. Lawns, however, require a lot of water--water which, depending where you live, may be in short supply. Winter is left behind

The frosty winter chill has left the air and the snow has

defrosted and washed away. The mercury on the

thermometer has started to rise and the spring showers

have begun. You open up your windows to to let the stale

air out of it's winter prison and gaze out at the dawn of a

new season. Instead of seeing fresh green new growth you

are faced with the crusty brown remnants of Mr Frost and

Old Man Winter. It means only one thing...time for a spring

clean up. I relish my quiet moments digging in the soil while

I tend to my vegetables and flowers but dread the heavy

lifting so I call Christensen Landscaping to do the work.

Brian the foreman and his crew swoop in and do in a

morning what I would be able to do in several weeks.

They begin with removing fallen branches and other large

debris my yard. They work as a team blowing out the beds,

the combined efforts of all of their machines are more powerful

and efficient than any single person could do alone.

They start a machine that looks to me to be a lawn mower with some

sort of giant rake attachment on it. Brian explains to me that it is used

to thatch the lawn. This process involves removing a tightly woven layer

of decaying organic material that sits above the soil and below the green

vegetation. Thatch buildup and soil compaction can cause a lawn to struggle.

The machine I mentioned earlier removes the excessive thatch and helps to

aerate the soil allowing the lawn to thrive. When the machine has covered

the entire lawn that team of blowers arrives again to remove all of the debris

that they removed from my lawn. They even scoop it up to truck away

so that I don't have a pile of it sitting in the corner of my yard.

This time they bring out the real lawn mower to cut the grass and

prepare it for the new season. At this time they add Lyme is added to the lawn

to make it slightly acidic and weed preventer is added to the beds to

help stop those pesky weeds before they start choking out my beautiful flowers.

As I sit back with my feet up sipping my cup of tea I think of how happy I am that

it's not me out side doing all that work.
